Why TORC
Globally, the prevalence of eye diseases is constantly rising. For most of them, there is no effective therapy available. In aging societies, disorders such as macular degeneration or glaucoma constitute a leading cause of disability and loss of independent lifestyle. Worldwide and especially in Asia, myopia – or short-sightedness – is on a steep incline with up to 90% of teenagers being affected in some regions.

Translational Projects
Stargardt disease is one of the most prevalent inherited conditions affecting the eye. Its onset is typically in adolescence and it is among the leading causes of blindness in juveniles. It affects around one in 8,000 people worldwide by severely impairing patients’ ability to focus sharply, i.e. to read and recognize faces, or to see colors. Currently, there is no treatment available.

The Journal of Tehran University Heart Center aims to publish the highest quality material, both clinical and scientific, on all aspects of cardiovascular Medicine. It includes articles related to research findings. Technical evaluations, and reviews. In addition, it provides a forum for the exchange of information on all aspects of Cardiovascular Medicine, including educational issues. “ the journal of Tehran University Heart Center” is an International, English language, peer reviewed journal concerned with Cardiovascular Medicine. It is an official Journal of the Cardiovascular Research Center of the Tehran University of Medical Sciences (in collaboration with the Iranian Society of Cardiac Surgeons) and is published quarterly.
