Genetic Counseling Clinic

This clinic aims to provide more accurate diagnoses of hereditary and genetic eye diseases and optimize their care. Genetic counseling and guidance are offered to referred cases, helping determine how molecular diagnostic tests can contribute to ongoing care for the individual and their family members. Tests are selected and prescribed based on their relevance. The patient is also guided in choosing the appropriate laboratory for testing.

Once the test results are available, in many cases, advanced analysis and interpretation are required, using specialized software and genetic databases to assess the likelihood of pathogenic variations. The test results, which include genetic variations, must be evaluated to estimate their potential to cause disease. Based on the results and clinical findings, the most accurate diagnosis is made, allowing for more precise counseling regarding prognosis, disease progression, marriage and family planning advice, career choices, disease management, and symptom control for the individual or their family.

It is important to note that in some cases, genetic testing can also be conducted in the absence of clinical symptoms, if early diagnosis is deemed useful in the pre-clinical stage.
