Meeting of the Scientific Committee of the 7th Call for Translational Ophthalmology Grants focusing on the BrainRetina Axis Held at Farabi Hospital
The scientific committee meeting for the 7th Translational Ophthalmology Grant Call, centered on the "Brain–Retina Axis", was held on Wednesday, May 13, 2026, from 7:30 to 9:00 AM in the Council Hall of the Ophthalmology Research Center at Farabi Hospital. The meeting was convened by Dr Seyed Farzad Mohammadi, Director of the Translational Ophthalmology Research Center, and was attended by several faculty members of Farabi Hospital and the Translational Ophthalmology Research Center, including Dr Fariba Ghassemi, Dr Mohammad Reza Mehrabi Bahar, Dr Elyas Khalilipour, Dr Motahareh Sadeghi, Dr Esmaeil Asadi Khameneh, Dr Samira Yadegari, Dr Zahra Mahdizad, Dr Zohreh Soltanpoury, Dr Seyed Mehran Sharafi, and Dr Navid Sobhi.
The meeting was aimed at brainstorming, planning, and finalizing the scientific themes for the 7th Translational Ophthalmology Grant Call. At the beginning of the session, Dr Seyed Farzad Mohammadi reviewed the process and achievements of previous calls and provided insights into the special approach of the 7th call, which focuses on the "Brain–Retina Axis", emphasizing the importance of interdisciplinary research at the intersection of neuroscience and vision science.
Subsequently, the attending members shared their expert views and opinions on the relationship between ocular diseases, particularly retinal diseases, and brain function and disorders. These discussions played an effective role in enhancing the translational innovation axes of this call. Additionally, the poster and timeline of the call were distributed to the scientific committee members and were thoroughly reviewed and discussed.
In another part of the meeting, the attending professors were invited to collaborate in the scientific review process of the submitted proposals. The 7th Translational Ophthalmology Grant Call will begin in early June 2026, and researchers and applicants can submit their pre-proposals from June 1 to June 30, 2026, to the call secretariat
