A brainstorming session of the editors of journals of Tehran University of Medical Sciences was held at the university with the presence of a group of responsible managers, editors and executive editors of scientific journals. Representatives from the Center for Translational Ophthalmology Research Center were also present at this session. Dr Seyed Farzad Mohammadi, editor-in-chief of the journal "Archives of Persian Ophthalmology", along with the executive editor of the journal, participated in this session and presented their views.
The editor-in-chief of the journal, emphasizing the importance of knowledge management and its role in the continuation of scientific activities, added: "The lack of efficient business management can weaken the social mission of journals and push activities towards a formal and unsustainable direction."
The editor-in-chief of "Archives of Persian Ophthalmology" listed several key areas for improving the level of academic journals, including:
- Paying attention to the translational approach in scientific subjects and macro technologies
- Smartening and utilizing new technologies, especially artificial intelligence, in electronic processes of journals
- Establishing special research grants for academic journals to support translational and innovative projects.
He also suggested that the university's Vice President for Research establish a systematic mechanism in the field of public relations to facilitate further discussions with editors so that, based on the data obtained, a conceptual framework can be designed to promote scientific communication and publication of articles.
Finally, he emphasized the strategic role of editors and editorial boards in promoting internationalization and increasing the scientific status of Tehran University of Medical Sciences journals.
